Flanges, which are classed according to various country rules and connection types, are produced in a variety of diameters depending on their intended application. The material to be used in its manufacturing is chosen based on the highest heat and pressure values to be exposed to the system to be used, the potential corrosion rate to be exposed to the line, and the area where the flange will be installed.

I. Introduction

A. Definition of Flanges

Flanges are vital components that connect pipes, valves, pumps, and other equipment. They are one of the safety solutions used to link piping systems to other equipment. Furthermore, flanges, the second most popular joining method available today, offer a number of benefits to the system in which they are installed. It can be manufactured of a variety of materials depending on its intended application, including brass, copper, and iron. One advantage is that it gives ease by allowing for greater flexibility when maintaining pipe networks. As YENA Engineering, we make any sort of flanges and pipe spools to your specifications.

B. Importance in Various Industries

Most professionals aren't as aware of the various types of equipment utilised in the physical business. All of these types of equipment have many components, one of which is quite significant in the mechanical industry: stainless steel flanges. These are produced by a stainless steel flange maker by combining two pieces of machinery. This is a critical component that holds the object in place and may also be an extension of a framework that is used to provide the object with strength. It can be used in a variety of ways, including connecting piping, most pumps, sheets, and other types of components that require an immediate connection point.

II. Types of Flanges

As previously stated, the most common ASME B16.5 flange types are: welding neck, slip on, socket weld, lap joint, threaded, and blind flange. Below is a brief description.

Welding Neck Flange

Welding Neck Flanges are easily identified by their long tapered hub that progressively extends to the wall thickness of a pipe or fitting.

The long tapered hub serves as a significant reinforcement for a variety of applications including high pressure, sub-zero, and/or higher temperatures. The taper's seamless transition from flange thickness to pipe or fitting wall thickness is especially useful when bending occurs repeatedly due to line expansion or other changing forces.

Slip-On Flange

The calculated strength of a Slip On flange under internal pressure is roughly two-thirds that of Welding Neck flanges, and their fatigue life is about one-third that of the latter.

The connection to the pipe is made with two fillet welds on both the outside and inside of the flange.

The X measurement on the image is about...

Wall thickness of the pipe plus 3 mm.

This margin is important to prevent damage to the flange face during the welding operation.

Socket Weld Flange

Socket Weld flanges were originally designed for use with small-size high-pressure pipes. Their static strength is comparable to Slip On flanges, but their fatigue strength is 50% higher than double-welded Slip On flanges.

The connection with the pipe is made using one fillet weld on the outside of the flange. However, before welding, a gap must be formed between the flange or fitting and the pipe.

Lap Joint Flange

Lap Joint Flanges have the same common dimensions as any other flange listed on this page, but they do not have a raised face and are used in conjunction with a "Lap Joint Stub End".

These flanges are essentially identical to Slip On flanges, with the exception of a radius at the flange face-bore junction to fit the Stub End's flanged portion.

Their pressure-holding ability is only slightly better than that of Slip On flanges, and the assembly's fatigue life is one-tenth that of Welding Neck flanges.
